Boxing
Discipline.
Respect.
Endurance.
In partnership with ACLAI Palestine, Lajee Celtic runs a boxing programme that has grown significantly since its launch in 2025. Alongside football, boxing has become one of the Club’s core activities, engaging both the community and its members through structured training, competitive development and international collaboration.
From Ireland to Italy, our boxing programme receives support from boxers and coaches who have worked at the highest level of the sport.
Tyrone McKenna, an international champion from Belfast, has worked closely with our coaches and boxers, helping to enhance both training methods and competitive performance. In Tyrone’s last fight, he wore ‘Aida’ across his keffiyeh pattern shorts and dedicated his win to Aida camp as the boxing team cheered him on from the gym.
Italian coaches Giulio Tufelo and Fabrizio Troya have also spent time developing our programme, coaches and boxers. Both welcomed our boxing team to Rome in 2026 to participate in an international solidarity boxing event which saw young boxers from across Palestine, Ireland and Italy train together and compete against each other.
Our senior boxers have quickly reached a high standard thanks to our programme and international support. In 2025, two of our boxers – Karam Shamakh and Ra’bal Abu Akar – participated in the first national tournament organised by the Palestinian Boxing Federation in Ramallah. Both won gold medals.
This achievement reflects the dedication of our athletes and coaches and our ambition to establish Lajee Celtic as a leading force in boxing across Palestine.
